DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 21 (MExN): As per the invitation, a 23 member Angami Youth Organisation led by its President Khrielevi Chusi met GPRN/NSCN officials at Dimapur on 21st September 2012. The meeting was a free and frank deliberation with both sides expressing greater need to build oneness and brotherhood among the Nagas. “The meeting was primarily an opportunity to heal the hurt sentiments of both GPRN/NSCN and AYO resulting over the statements issued by both side against each others a fortnight earlier”, informed a press note issued by Ghukiho T Jimo Kilo Secretary, GPRN/NSCN. AYO on 12th August had declared and urged non co-operation against GPRN/NSCN while GPRN/NSCN on 18th issued a statement terming AYO action as unacceptable.
“The trust and confidence between GPRN/NSCN and AYO was strengthened as both sides expressed and exchanged views on social-political status and agreed that all sections of Nagas must strive for the common vision of the Nagas”.
GPRN/NSCN expressed regret and admitted that it was never the intension to hurt the sentiment of AYO or the Angami Nagas when on 2nd August 2012, two Khaplang members were shot dead by Naga Army at Kohima. “While respecting AYO resolutions to make Kohima a secure place, it was the needed response against a group which had mercilessly gunned down more than ten unarmed civilian GPRN/NSCN workers elsewhere in the last two months”.
GPRN/NSCN assured AYO officials that with better co-ordination and understanding between AYO, GPRN/NSCN Angami Region and Kohima Town command, such unfortunate incidents in civilian areas would be avoided in future.
AYO officials clarified that they had issued the statement on12 August as per the resolution adopted by all tribal representatives cohabiting at Kohima for the safety of the citizens however the officials expressed regret if the content of the statement dented the image of the GPRN/NSCN in any manner.
AYO officials expressed firm solidarity in the political right of the Nagas and assured that it would continue to work for the common well being of the citizens of Kohima in particular and Nagas in general. Both sides agreed that such consultation should take place on a regular basis.
