DIMAPUR, JUNE 13 (MExN): The GPRN/NSCN (Neokpao-Alezo) today informed that “founding members” of the GPRN/NSCN (Unification) on June 13 reaffirmed their commitment to the unity of the Naga people during an interaction with AK Mishra, representative of the Government of India (GoI), held in Dimapur.
A press release from the MIP of the GPRN/NSCN (Neokpao-Alezo) said that the meeting reflected on the events of November 22, 2007, at Hovishe Village, which led to the formation of the GPRN/NSCN (Unification). Senior leaders who were present during that pivotal moment 18 years ago gathered to meet with the Government of India’s interlocutor.
The release said that 20-member delegation, led by Azheto Chophi and C Singson, provided what was described as a “concise yet comprehensive account of the sequence of events that led to the formation of the Unification.” The leaders said that “their intent was never to form a separate group or incite factionalism among the Naga National workers.” Rather, they reiterated their “enduring commitment to unity and a peaceful, amicable resolution of the Indo-Naga political issue.”
They also reflected on the slow progress that led to the formation of a collective Naga Political Group and the eventual dialogue with the Centre. They said that despite the time taken, the aim remained unchanged — a unified approach.
“They urged the GoI representative to convey to the Hon’ble Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister that, once the political roadmap is finalized, the entire Naga fraternity will speak in one voice,” the release stated.
They further claimed the Government of India that “there are no differences or disputes regarding any matters that have already been negotiated and settled with the Government of India.”
According to the MIP, AK Mishra expressed “deep satisfaction” in meeting the senior leaders of the GPRN/NSCN (Unification), and acknowledged “their significant contributions to the Naga political movement over nearly five decades.”
