DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 7 (MExN): The GPRN/NSCN held a special prayer program in honour of the newly elected President, Khole Konyak at Tobu town, Mon District on the 30th of September, 2011. The Team, led by the General Secretary, N. Kitovi Zhimomi, arrived at Tobu Town on the 29th of September, where a short reception was held by the public and students of Tobu Town, Tobu village and other neighbouring villages. More than a Thousand people had gathered to welcome and also have a glimpse of the President, informed a press note from the MIP.
The Prayer program which followed the next day was graced by the public leaders of neighbouring villages, which consisted mostly of Unit Presidents of Konyak Union (KU) and other student bodies. Greeting the gathering, the General Secretary N. Kitovi Zhimomi thanked the dignitaries present for harbouring in a sense of understanding and peaceful co-existence among various tribes and units and further urged them to continue working towards the development of peace and unity.
Adding that, the decision to let peace or warfare prevail among the factions lay in the hands of the public, because it is the public who can “either usher in a sense of responsibility of humanity on the national workers by choosing to support anything that begets positive outcomes or be a hitch that generates repulsive actions among one another”, assuring that the GPRN would always listen to the voice of the public, because there can be no GPRN if the movement does not recognize the mandate of the public.
The President Khole Konyak in his speech stated that his only concern is to let peace and tranquillity prevail among the Naga Nation. Adding that, although it is the usual norms for revolutionary groups to oppose one another, it should not continue forever, but each group should start questioning one another if killing among oneself had ever achieved anything fruitful, and let the era of bloodshed be a thing of the past and look forward to erasing the misconceptions about each other.
Assuring the people that, till all Naga groups can dine together in the same kitchen, he would work towards peaceful co-existence among all the Nagas. The President also appealed to the public to work towards oneness just as the revolutionary governments are striving towards it.
The President of the Konyak Union, Tobu Unit also spoke at the occasion and urged the National workers, irrespective of all groups to come together towards a “soluble decision wherein, peace should be the decisive factor towards solving the Indo-Naga problem, and not killing and bloodshed among the Nagas”. Adding that, nothing good will come out of violence, and also assured co-operation towards building a better understandings among Naga National Workers”.
Others who spoke at the occasion were Village Council Chairman of Wangshu village, the birthplace of the President, Vice President of KU Moka Unit, President of the Konyak Students’ Union, Tobu Town Unit and Regional Chairmen.
Other highlight of the program included, Special songs by David Konyak and P. Shammoah, Special presentation to the Members of the GPRN by the Konyak Union, Konyak Students’ Union, Tobu Town, Yimchungru Region and Chang region and word of thanks by C. Singson, Convener, Ceasefire Supervisory Board (CFSB).
The Program concluded with a special prayer for the President led by the Mission Secretary of Konyak Baptist Bumeinok Bangjam (KBBB).
