‘GPRN/NSCN’ reacts to shooting

Dimapur, May 26 (MExN): Reacting to today’s firing incident in Dimapur, the “GPRN/NSCN” termed and condemned the incident as “the assassination attempt on its Dimapur town commander by IM gang” which resulted in the injury of one NSCN (IM) cadre.

A response to the shooting incident was received here from the group’s ‘publicity cell’ stating that “the enemies first arrested” the bodyguard of ‘the “Dimapur town commander” at gunpoint near the Plaza bakery and “after making him a human shield, fired at the officer who promptly took evasive action”. In retaliation, one of “the killers was fatally shot”, the outfit asserted. The ‘bodyguard’ escaped by taking advantage of the chaos after freeing himself from the ‘assailants grip,’ it stated. “Despite the obstacles and hurdles created by enemies on a daily basis”, the outfit asserted, its ‘co-operation’ with the hohos and civil society to bring reconciliation and unity among the Nagas will continue.

On other matters, the “GPRN/NSCN” also responded to the news report about the rescue of two abducted businessmen by the Assam Rifles which appeared on May 25. The group today termed the reported rescue of the “so-called two businessmen by AR from Burma Camp is completely one sided which is nothing but self glorification with exaggerated fallacy”. It demanded the Assam Rifles to release the arrested cadres and also the seized arms.

A statement received here from the outfit’s ‘publicity cell’ claimed that the two rescued businessmen, Umesh Singh and Rajiv Soni “were arrested and detained for indulging in illegal supply of liquor and other abusive substances in connivance with anti-social elements in Dimapur”. They were actively assisting and abetting criminal activities in Nagaland through illegal business which is against the policy of the outfit, it claimed.
