Dimapur, October 28 (MExN): Gracious Life Foundation (GLF) team members on October 28 visited Anthony, a young college student, who was physically assaulted and robbed by three cadres of NSCN (K) while on his way to participate in the 5 Km race organised by the NGO to commemorate “World Mental Health Day,” which is observed globally on October 10 every year.
Upon learning of the incident on social media, the organisation expressed deep sorrow and concern for Anthony, who endured such a traumatic experience. The mental health squads from GLF reached out to offer psychological support to help him cope with the aftermath of this distressing event, stated a press release received here.
GLF’s vision is aimed at providing support and services in regards to mental health in the State and with this goal, they initiated a conversation with the young student and supported him with Psychological First Aid (PFA) by understanding and empathizing his current mental state which he reportedly suffered from distress leading to sleepless nights following the situation, as well as having flashbacks of the scene.
He expressed that he was socially withdrawn for about one week after as he was anxious and did not want to relive the moment by sharing his experience to others. This incident has also caused his family and loved ones to be in mental turmoil resulting them to be hyper vigilant and tensed about the safety of him. It has not only caused mental distress to the victim but also to those around him which only shows that mental health is a collective responsibility.
Team GLF also extended their support to this young man by presenting him with a ‘Certificate of Participation’ from the race event stating that he participated by taking a stand to support mental health and also standing up for what is right, as he boldly voiced out for many unheard people who may have lived the same story as his.
“The irony lies with the incident taking place on such a day where Mental Health is being prioritized and honored in our State. This only reflects how Naga society perceives mental health and where we stand today as a collective community. The underlying reason or motive of such acts are many and undeniably includes mental health issues causing serious consequences to victims and their loved ones,” GLF stated in its press release.
The Organization has also strongly condemned the grievous act and we do not support nor encourage such ruthless conducts.
