Grand celebration mark 25 yrs recognition of Zhadima village

In commemoration of the 25 years recognition of Zhadima village in getting the village new name, the villagers today celebrated the occasion with much pomp and traditional gaiety.  

The village name was replaced from Keruma to Zhadima and it got recognition from the government in 1993. It was unveiled by the then PWD minister Neiphiu Rio, now the chief minister of Nagaland. Zhadima village was established in 1528 AD (approximately) based on generation, according to the book on history of Zhadima village that was brought out to mark the occasion.  

Peter Kuotsu, ex-VDB secretary said the village had already celebrated 75 years of Christianity including golden jubilee of students’ union and village youth and sports association. Kuotsu said the village registered a significant progress in many fronts in 25 years time of its village new name recognition by the Government.

Today, Zhadima village own standard badminton stadium, sports complex with standard playground, Government High School, Primary Health Centre, electricity 220 KV power station, etc etc. He maintained that developmental activities have been possible because of the complete sense of unanimity among the villagers and expressed optimistic that the village would continue to shine as long as unity and congenial atmosphere prevail.  

This village has produced international football player in the person of Roko Angami.  

Also highlighting some developmental packages in 25 years time, K.T. Vilie Theünuo, vice president Angami Public Organization said “We need to do a lot more.” He stressed on the need to focus on human resource development alongside infrastructural development and economic growth.  

Talking on history of Zhadima village, Neiyalie Pfüsenuo, chairman History Committee and president Northern Angami Public Organization suggested that a commemorative event is held once in every five years to keep the history alive.   Zhadima maintains a very conservative system of administration. Clanism supremacy does not prevail in the village organization. The village day to day administration is control by village council.  

Pronouncing elderly blessing, Zhadima head GB Mezhiikieo prayed that the denizens of Zhadima stay healthy, wealthy and emerge victorious on all fronts.   Zhadima village lies 18 km from the state capital Kohima. The total number of households stands 809 at present with a population of 5498. The number of government servants stands at 282 as per 2016 record and 777 students (2016). Having eight khels, important landmarks in the village includes 10th NAP (IR) battalion headquarter and Ave Maria Prayer Retreat Centre.  

Earlier, the function was chaired by Zhadima village council chairman Kesovilhou Chiipuo while welcome address was delivered by Zhadima village VDB secretary Roko Angami. Rev. Dr. T. R. Angami prayed for the celebration while vote of thanks was proposed by GB Kedilezo M. Keditsu. Cultural extravaganza and community feast marked the occasion.
