A ‘Green Village Initiative through Energy Efficient Retrofits’ was conducted at Mopungchuket village under Mokokchung district today by the Electrical Inspectorate, Kohima as the Nagaland State Designated Agency (NSDA) on Energy Conservation.
Chief Electrical Inspector, Er. I.V. Chishi while delivering his introductory speech said that under the Energy Conservation Act 2001, Energy Conservation Bureau has been set up in all the states and that the Electrical Inspectorate Kohima has been designated as the Nagaland State Designated Agency which acts as the nodal agency for the initiative.
He said that they work with schools, colleges and young intellectuals to inculcate the habit of energy conservation while also encouraging them to set up energy conservation clubs. He added that the Government of Nagaland had earlier launched its flagship programme on Green Village Initiative and that nearly 45 villages have been covered under the initiative so far since 2010.
The aim objective of the program is to create awareness among the masses to use energy efficiently. He lamented that there is inadequate supply of power while consumption had risen in the wake of modern technology. Further, he motivated the masses to reduce power consumption by adopting sustainable practices of energy consumption like switching off power when not in use and to have proper electrification wiring in the houses.
Demonstration on energy saving was carried out by Er Kevingukho Suokhrie, Assistant Electrical Inspector where he demonstrated the difference between power consumption by normal incandescent bulbs and LED bulbs. The demonstration was followed by distribution of energy efficient luminaries. The department donated 1500 numbers of LED bulbs, 1000 numbers of energy efficient LED tube lights, 20 numbers of street lights with posts.
A short thanksgiving speech by village council chairman Aosadang was made where he thanked the department for the initiative and for donating the energy efficient luminaries. Valedictory speech was made by Er PT Philip, Senior Electrical Inspector who thanked all the participants and also encouraged the masses to use the luminaries judiciously. He also added the LED bulbs can be availed at subsidized rates from DC office and block headquarters office.
The programme was attended by student leaders, church workers, village council elders, village electrical committee and officials from Mokokchung electrical division. The programme was chaired by Meyimenla, UDA while invocation was pronounced by Rev. Jongpong Pastor, Mopungchuket.
