The 39th annual sports meet of Greenwood School, Kuda Village, kicked off on September 27 with district sports officer, Dimapur, Tepulezonu Tetso, as the chief guest in the opening ceremony.
The district sports officer in her address said games and sports has become one of the most enviable professions and that sportspersons are as respected as engineers or doctors.
Tetso said since sports has become a highly sought profession, students who have potential in sports should be encouraged to take up sports in all seriousness. The chief guest who is also from sports background said Nagas are gifted with talent in games and sports but still lagging behind other states due to a number of factors. She said in sports too, discipline, hardwork, determination and dedication are the qualities to possess and imbibe one wishes to succeed and excel.
Principal, Greenwood School, Nelie Kath, in her welcome address said the objective of conducting sports meet is to motivate students to improve their social and co-curricular skills.
Earlier, the chief guest took the salute of the 12 march-past contingents comprising of junior, senior and intermediate batches of the four houses- Blue, Green, Red and Yellow.
Vice principal, Greenwood School, Hemchandra Singh, officiated the oath taking ceremony.
The sports meet commenced with invocation by Thejaseno Angami, assistant teacher-cum-counsellor.
