Dimapur, May 29 (MExN): In the third such incident within the last two months, motorbike-borne miscreants, believed to be extortionists, lopped a low-intensity grenade at the Plaza Provisions Store and Bakery, Dimapur today at around 7 am. Recently anti-social elements had lopped explosives at the uptown departmental store, The Orchids as well as at a motor-workshop at Kher Mahal.
Eyewitness accounts said that two persons wearing helmets rode by the provisions store in a black motorbike and lopped the grenade which landed on the kerb of the store. The motorbike bore no registration plates, eyewitness said. No casualties were incurred from the explosion. Police believe the two miscreants are from a particular underground faction and related to extortion. “No ordinary criminals carry around Chinese grenades” police sources opined.
When contacted Dimapur Superintendent of Police Bidhu Shekhar said investigations are going on.
He however said the police are facing some difficulties as the targeted victims are refusing to cooperate with the police particularly in regard to the reasons they believe are responsible for the miscreants perpetrating such criminal acts. “Business people should come forward and help with the police” the SP said.
Meanwhile the GPRN taking cognizance of the incident as well as others like the blank firing at Duncan Bosti recently, has questioned the act and asserted that such “disoriented acts have no place in the Naga society. ‘It needs to be checked by all, as adverse schemes and tactics of terrorizing the people into submission to their ways are not admissible in Nagalim” a MIP, GPRN release stated. “We will not succumb to terrorists’ ways as our national principle will reign over all evil machinations” the GPRN stated.
