Grenade blast near Manipur Assembly, 2 CRPF personnel injured

At least two CRPF personnel were injured in a hand grenade blast near the Manipur Legislative Assembly Complex in Imphal’s Lilasing Khongnanmakhong on Friday evening.

 

Police said that the hand grenade went off inside the office of a local youth club (Thangmeiband Improvement Club) situated close to the the main gate of the Manipur Assembly complex around 5.15 pm.

 

The CRPF personnel deployed in the area have been staying at the club building during their round the clock duties in the area.

 

BSF and CRPF personnel guarding the Assembly complex were deployed there as additional force deployed at almost all the sensitive areas of the state capital in the wake "alert campaign" in connection with the Naga peace talks spearheaded by COCOMI.

 

Two injured CRPF personnel have been identified as head constable Jitenchandra (41) from Assam and constable Joydev (37) from West Bengal.

 

Jitenchandra sustained splinter injuries on his left leg while Joydev on his shoulder. The personnel belong to B-coy of 87th battalion CRPF and were reportedly inside the club building when the hand grenade exploded.They were immediately rushed to RIMS hospital.

 

Police said the hand grenade was lobbed by unknown miscreants targeting the security forces.
