No fresh fires or smoke from the Dzükou valley area were detected from the base camp, Kohima Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Rajkumar M said on Saturday.

The ground operation team will remain stationed at the base camp and an aerial survey will be conducted on Sunday morning, the DFO added.

According to reports from the state DIPR, low intensity smoke which was seen during an aerial recce on Saturday was doused off in a bambi bucket operation. The smoke was observed during a recce-cum-bambi bucket operation conducted with Dimapur DFO Beizo Suokhrie and NSDMA Senior Consultant Hinotoli, to assess the fire situation.

It said that the Kohima District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) also reviewed the day’s operational activities under the chairmanship of Kohima Deputy Commissioner and DDMA Chairperson, Mohammed Ali Shihab A.

During the meeting, Kohima Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar informed that the ground operation team reported that smoke from across the mountain started appearing at around 10:00 am.  However, due to high ridge and inaccessibility by the ground operation team, the smoke was doused by one sortie of IAF bambi bucket operation. The SP further informed that no active smoke or fire was reported by the ground team from the watch tower till the time of reporting, the DIPR stated.

The Kohima DC meanwhile informed that the State Government has decided to continue with the recce-cum-bambi bucket operation on Sunday as well.

As per the DIPR, the ground operation team on Saturday was led by SDO Kohima, R Daniel Angami along with DDMO Thejangulie Zao and SDPO South with NDRF, Kohima Police, Forest department personnel and volunteers who were stationed at the base camp.

It was also informed that DSP Traffic and his team will replace SDPO South and his team on Sunday while the meeting also discussed on tentative plans for demobilisation of the operation team stationed at the base camp.
