LAYING THE foundation towards hammering out a final solution to the contentious Tobu land ownership issue, both the Konyak Union (KU) and the Chang Khulie Setshang (CKS) today under the aegis of the Eastern Nagaland Public Organization (ENPO) mutually agreed that peace between the Konyak and Changs be maintained at any cost to facilitate a permanent solution to the long pending Tobu issue.
Representatives from the ENPO, as well as both the KU and CKS, along with other tribal representatives today held a closed door meeting at the Tourist Lodge, Dimapur where the Tobu issue was deliberated at length for a preliminary pledge that would pave way for a permanent solution acceptable to both the communities, presently in contention over ownership rights over Tobu, a hamlet in Mon District.
“For about 20-30 years the Tobu issue has been a chronic issue. We have mutually decided that peace between the two communities should be maintained at any cost in order to solve the Tobu issue permanently” informed General Secretary of ENPO, W Aleba Chang over phone.
The meeting, referred to as the initial groundwork by the ENPO leaders, was held to pave way for a favorable atmosphere, where the issue would be sorted out with mutual reciprocation, said the General Secretary.
“Hopefully, this would be the groundwork for a permanent solution and peace between the two parties. We have confidence that the Tobu issue would be resolved at the earliest” Aleba hoped. More meetings between the respective tribal bodies from both the aforementioned communities would be held later on at a convenient time, it was informed.
