
Morung Express News Dimapur | April 27 The Notun Basti Council destroyed a cache of confiscated paan masala (gutkha) on April 27. As per the council, raids were conducted simultaneously early in the morning today at several shops located within the colony during which gutkha were found and confiscated. The council informed that it has already passed a directive banning shops in the locality from selling gutkha in the interest of public health. Monetary penalty were imposed on the defaulting shop owners, while it added that households were also caught selling liquor. The Notun Basti Council has resolved to make the colony a ‘gutkha and liquor free zone’. The council headed by E. John Ezung made an appeal to the neighbouring colonies to cooperate in the mission. The council was assisted by the colony women and youth forums to conduct the raids.
