Dimapur | December 18

The Governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya responding to the ACAUT Nagaland memorandum to the Prime Minister stated that it will be forwarded to the Prime Minister’s Office.

Responding to queries from the media subsequent to the submission of the memorandum, the Governor stated that the ACAUT as an anti-corruption body is justified to expose corruption. It however should not come at the cost of “taking law into your own hands,” he added.

Commenting on the highhanded police action of December 15 on anti-corruption demonstrators, he said that the government has a duty to maintain law and order. He added that whether the police action was justified or not is upto to the court to settle provided someone appeals. On the flipside, he said that the government should also not misunderstand any movement that is in the interest of the people.

Taking a general stance, he said, “Corruption is here in the state” and it is for the government to respond to the people’s grievances. Appealing the government to deal with corruption with an iron hand, he said, “We have to arrest the corruption… whosoever it may be.”
