Dimapur, June 17 (MExN): Sneha Agrawal, a student of Fashion Designing at JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Guwahati, wins the prestigious “Vogue Honours 2010” award. The award was announced in the latest June 2011 Issue of “Vogue (India)” magazine.
In its second year, Vogue Honours 2010 saw participation from over 120 top fashion colleges in India, with over 1200 registrations. The theme for this year's contest was “India Ingenious”, and students were asked to create a portfolio of five designs incorporating three types of traditional Indian handicrafts in each of them. It was no easy task for the judges Priya Tanna - Editor, Vogue India, Anaita Shroff Adajania - Fashion Director and Bandana Tewari - Fashion Feature Director to pick out winners from the entries which flooded in. The winners received cash awards and certificates. Vogue India, has taken it upon them selves to introduce and promote promising young talent in fashion design.
The name of Sneha Agrawal’s collection was 'Rangmanch' which has been inspired by the shell work of Goa, lampshades of Orissa, the Kashmir wooden crafts, wooden crafts and zardozi and the tye and dye. Colours she has used are sea blue and silver, yellow, blue and cotton candy, sandstone and grass green, black, wooden, true blue and maroon. Fabrics utilized are silk, georgette, ikat fabric net and silk and knitted cotton. The accessories used are pearls for the waist and hair, high heels, bazubandh, head gear, bangles, necklaces and mang-tikka.
Sumita Dey Deka, Centre Director JD Institute of Fashion Technology Guwahati, Said “We are exhilarated with the results, this is not only an award to one of our bright students, but the testimony of our sincere efforts to promote designing education in North East, an education at par with the national standards. This also goes a long way in proving that the students of north east have the potential to excel on any national platform”.
