Gwen Stefani's new album inspired by Gavin Rossdale split and new love Blake Shelton

She split from her husband of 13 years Gavin Rossdale last year before finding love with fellow musician Blake Shelton. And given the eventful months Gwen Stefani has experienced as of late, it's no surprise the singer has drawn from her personal life when penning the tracks for her latest album ‘This Is What The Truth Feels Like’. Speaking to Sunday Style magazine, the 46-year-old revealed she 'was going through the craziest time' in her life when working on her first solo album in a decade, but had to be mindful of her children when opening up about the men in her life through song.   'It's impossible to explain how hard it was, to get into a room with people you don't know - who don't know your story - and you can't say what's going on,' Gwen explained of the challenges she faced during the songwriting process. One of her major priorities was protecting her three sons Kingston, nine, Zuma, seven and Apollo, two, whom she shares with ex Gavin Rossdale, 50. 'I needed to protect the children,' she said.

Gwen's marriage broke up last year amidst reports that her husband Gavin had been cheating on her with their children's nanny. And while she has 'nothing to hide', she insists, 'when you're a public mum, it is mine to know how much to talk about, that's why I don't talk about them too much'. 'I don't want them to look back and be embarrassed.' Gwen and Gavin split their time with their children, and the No Doubt star says it's a struggle to be away from her kids, but it does give her an opportunity to focus on her craft.
