As Kohima city activation and pre-event awareness for the upcoming Khelo India University Games (Wrestling), the Ward Level Half Marathon took place today in Kohima.
Organized by Kohima Municipal Council (KMC), the Half Marathon was flagged off from Phoolbari and culminated at High School junction.
KMC Administrator T Lanusenla Longkumer flagged off the run at Phoolbari, near MLA Hostel junction, Kohima and later handed over prize to the winners.
31 participants from Don Bosco College, Mt Olive College, Kohima College, Youth Resource & Sports department and KMC wards joined the event. Zerovi Resuh bagged 1st position in female category. Z Livani Ezung and Pheangyu L. Konyak stood 2nd and 3rd position respectively. In male category, the winners were 1st- Vihuka Assumi, 2nd- Peuhaulungsing and 3rd- Sorito Yimchunger.
Nagaland gears up for Khelo India University Games
Meanwhile, a DIPR report added that as Nagaland prepares to co-host wrestling as part of the Khelo India University Games from February 22 to 26, a co-ordination meeting was held at IG Stadium, Kohima on February 17.
Chairing the meeting, Secretary, Youth Resources & Sports, Anthony Ngullie called upon all the stakeholders to give their best for the success of the games. He also stated that the state was lucky to co-host such games on a national-level. Various agenda such as transport, accommodation, catering, security and other logistics were highlighted and deliberated by the house. Members of various committees shared their work progress and shed a light on their activities. Officials from various government departments such as Youth Resources & Sports, Transport, Power, PHE, Police etc., including an official from the Sports Authority of India, attended the meeting.
Assam is the main host of the 4th edition of Khelo India University Games. Other North Eastern states will also co-host various disciplines wherein Nagaland has been assigned with wrestling.
The Khelo India University Games is a national-level multidisciplinary sports event aimed at promoting sports and fitness among university students in India.
