DIMAPUR, MAY 8 (MExN): The Nagaland Government on May 8 sought a 2 week extension of the deadline set by the Kohima Bench of the Gauhati High Court for setting up Bio Safety Labs in the State.
In a hearing today, the government informed that the lab at the Naga Hospital Authority Kohima will be functional within 5 days “if everything goes well,” while the lab in Dimapur will taken 2 weeks.
The Court granted the two weeks extension, asking the government to submit a compliance affidavit at the end of the two weeks.
If the labs are not functional by then, it ordered the Chief Secretary; Principal Secretary, Health and Welfare Department; and the Principal Director, Directorate of Health and Family Welfare to appear before the Court in person and explain.
It may be recalled that following a petition, the Court in an order on April 17 had ordered the Nagaland Government to make at least two BSL labs in the State by May 8.
