Head GB of Samaguri Garo Village passes away

Dimapur, January 3 (MExN): The Head Gaon Bura (GB) of Samaguri Garo Village, Abril Sangma passed away around 5:30 pm on January 2 after prolonged illness. He is survived by four sons, six daughters, several grandchildren and great grandchildren. The funeral service conducted at Samaguri on January 3 was blessed by Rev. James Thoppil, Bishop of Nagaland and ministered by Rev. Fr. Chacko.  

Born on April 1, 1929, Abril was the founding pioneer of Samaguri Village established in 1950, informed a press release from Biplab K. Sangma, President, NGTC. He was also the founding President of Nagaland Garo Tribal Council (NGTC) formed in 1991. He served as the Head GB of Samaguri Village from 2007 till his demise. As the founding President of NGTC, he spearheaded several movements for the uplift and development of the Garos of Nagaland, the release acknowledged.  

Expressing grief and condolence over the demise, the Council stated it is a great physical as well as moral loss for the entire Garo community, especially for the Garos of Nagaland as Abril was actively involved in the uplift and betterment of the Garo society. “His untimely demise is a great blow to the political as well as administrative betterment of not only Samaguri Garo Village but also for the NGTC and the Garos of Nagaland as a whole,” it maintained.  

The NGTC further offered condolences to his family members, especially his children and grandchildren and prayed that his soul finds everlasting bliss in heaven and that God gives strength and solace to his family and dear ones to come out of the grief and loss.  

The Council said it will always cherish the good works and immense contribution made by late Abril and also promised that his dream and aspirations will be carried on by the Garo body. NGTC also assured that Abril's children and grandchildren will always get its support in days to come.
