Health care provider training on MSM and Transgender

Dimapur, June 30 (MExN): The Humsafar Trust, a community based organization from Mumbai organised three days training programme for health care provider on sexual and reproductive health of MSM (Men who have sex with men) with collaboration with Nagaland State AIDS Control Society (NSACS) under project DIVA with support from United Nations Development Program (UNDP). The training was organised from June 28 to 30 at Hotel Lake Shilloi, Dimapur.  

Humsafar Trust representative Tinesh Chopade in a press release stated that the Humsafar Trust works in 17 states of India on MSM and transgender rights from past 22 years.  

The training workshop was organised with goals to enable health care providers to provide quality sexual health care services (especially diagnosis and treatment of STIs) to MSM; understand basic information about human sexual diversities (especially non-heterosexual sexualities); understand and address the barriers faced by MSM in accessing clinical services, and what can be done by the doctors.  

The main objective of this training programme to reduce and address issue of stigma, discrimination based on sexuality or sexual identity and to make health care provider aware issues of Sexual and reproductive health problems of MSM (Men who have sex with men) and transgender person and help them to avail public health facilities.  

The training programme was attended by team of 14 doctors from different districts of Nagaland. The resource person of training was Dr. Shreyansh Talesra from Mumbai has shared extensive knowledge about subject with participant along with Humsafar Trust representative Tinesh Chopade.
