Health factor a setback in Army recruitment

Dimapur, Jan 17 (MExN): The new recruitment into the Territorial Army 164 INF (TA) for Dimapur and Peren districts is underway at the Dimapur State Stadium beginning today. During an interaction with Col. RK Satyan, Commander of TA Group Eastern Command told The Morung Express at the recruitment area that health disorders among the youths have largely affected their recruitment in the medical test.

He informed that a number of youths have been rejected in the medical test because of three main health setbacks. Skin problems, ear annihilation and health problems due to large quantities intake of tobacco, paan and intoxicated objects were the major problems detected during the medical test. “Medical problems in new candidates are very alarming in these parts of the country and parents should take caution of it”, commented the Colonel.

Around 1100 aspiring youths were selected for the one-mile running test after height verification from which 160 candidates were selected for medical test. The recruitment rally will continue till tomorrow.

The security officials informed that the recruitment rally will be held in all the 11 districts and has targeted 64 new recruitment altogether. It may be mentioned that the selected group will be the 1st battalion for Nagaland, Special Territorial Army after training. Today’s rally included explaining the candidates the concept of TA, its service embodiment, training and benefits.

The Territorial Army (TA) is a locally recruited organisation which acts as a second line of defence, a standing army volunteer reserve. The Territorial Army is part of Army and its present role is to relieve the Regular Army from static duties and assist civil administration in dealing with natural calamities and maintenance of essential services in situations where life of the communities is affected or the Security of the Country is threatened and to provide units for Regular Army as and when required.

Major Kishan Datt defines TA as the interface between the army and the civil society. All personnel of infantry and Departmental TA will be called out for service embodiment by the Central Government or the authority empowered for two months in a year. But in the event of war or in an emergency, the part-time soldier is very much the whole-time soldier.
