Kohima, February 24 (MExN): Office of the Chief Medical Officer Kohima, with the District Health Society, Department of Health & Family Welfare, NRHM conducted a health mela cum medical camp at Sendenyu village under Kohima district on February 19.
Hundreds of people thronged Sendenyu village to avail various health services. The programme was chaired by the Medical Officer I/C. Awareness on Revised National Tuberculosis Program (RNTCP) was delivered by Dr. Vezokholu (DTO) where she emphasized that individuals with related symptoms should undergo sputum test for early detection of TB. Dr. Atsung, Deputy CMO, spoke on the need for control of tobacco and the harmful effects of tobacco and urged the community not to be misled by the advertisements of the tobacco industries. Dr. Avino Metha, Chief Medical Officer Kohima, in her exhortation reminded the gathering of the responsibilities of all in bringing about health awareness to uplift the health of the society in general and for contribution of the individual in particular.
Discussions with VHCs were held in regard with Communitization, where the elders urged for more health camps to be conducted in near future. Inter-Personal Communication was also done covering different topics like ARSH, ANC, Family planning, Immunization & HIV/AIDS etc. Fully immunized children were distributed with gifts and prizes and mothers were encouraged to be more prompt in health issues. Besides, films on health matters were also screened while patients awaited their turn for doctor’s consultancy.
Altogether 300 patients from Sendenyu and surrounding villages availed the services. Blood slides were collected and tested for malaria. Eight clients were counseled and tested for HIV by ICTC. Immunization of 15 children and ante-natal checkup services were also provided. Nine doctors from CMO’s chamber and staff of Tesophenyu PHC conducted the camp.
