Dimapur, December 11 (MExN): With the need to provide better and more advanced health care facilities, Faith Hospital, Dimapur, has launched the tech savvy Telemedicine; the first of its kind in Nagaland. Head of telemedicine, Apollo Hospitals, Dr. Himanshu, while launching the network today at Faith Hospital said the facility will change the face of healthcare in Nagaland and will benefit the state to a phenomenal extent.
Pointing out the concept of telemedicine, Dr. Himanshu mentioned that it was a global healthcare system where anyone can have access to any doctor of their choice, anywhere in the world. Faith Hospital will be connected to super specialists in hospitals like Apollo, Fortis, Delhi and Noida, CMC, Vellore, Frontier Lifeline, Chennai, BM Birla Research Center, Kolkata, and PD Hinduja Memorial. Telemedicine, the doctor pointed out, will benefit not only the patients but also medical practitioners who can upgrade their skills and knowledge by constantly networking with super specialists.
Telemedicine is basically the use of modern telecommunication and information technologies for the provision of clinical care to individuals located at a distance and to the transmission of information to provide better healthcare facilities, and Faith Hospital has pioneered the installing of telemedicine in Dimapur. The objective of the hospital is to give super specialty healthcare to the medically underprivileged and also provide several tele-CMEs and management programmes for doctors.
Telemedicine is claimed to be cost effective. It also saves time and provides quality care where patients can avail specialists’ opinions from over sixteen different specialists. Reports of patients can be transferred to the doctor of their choice within a matter of minutes.
A relay of telemedicine networking was demonstrated by Dr. Himanshu, in conversation with doctors at Apollo Hospital. With a webcam attached atop a television set, the doctor sitting in front of the webcam intimated the doctors at Apollo about the launch of telemedicine in Dimapur.
