Kohima, May 22 (MExN): The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), under the Home Department, has issued a weather advisory forecasting thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, gusty winds of 30–40 kmph, and heavy rainfall in several districts of the state from May 23 to May 26.
Citizens have been advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions, including avoiding shelter under trees and near electric poles, staying away from water bodies and exercising caution while travelling, particularly in landslide-prone and low-lying areas.
On May 23, thunderstorms with lightning, gusty winds, and heavy rainfall are very likely at isolated places in Peren, Dimapur, Kohima, Wokha and Mokokchung districts, while Zunheboto, Longleng, Mon, and Tuensang districts are likely to experience thunderstorms with lightning. No warning has been issued for Phek and Kiphire districts on that day.
On May 24, heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds is likely at isolated places in Peren, Dimapur, Kohima and Wokha districts. Mokokchung and Mon may experience thunderstorms with lightning and heavy rain, while Zunheboto, Longleng and Tuensang are likely to witness thunderstorms with lightning. No warning has been issued for Phek and Kiphire districts.
On May 25, thunderstorms with lightning are likely at isolated places in Peren, Dimapur, Kohima, Wokha, Mokokchung, Longleng, and Mon districts. No warning has been issued for Phek, Kiphire, Zunheboto and Tuensang districts.
No weather warning has been issued for any district of Nagaland on May 26, with conditions expected to remain generally stable across the state.
The NSDMA has urged the public to follow advisories issued by the India Meteorological Department and district authorities for the latest updates.
