Torrential rains today have severely affected Wokha town, causing widespread flooding and landslides in several areas, including Zuvotong, Etsuchukha, PWD, Saron, Forest, Suren, NST, and the main town.

Wokha Hospital Road was blocked following a landslide below the slaughterhouse at PWD Colony, prompting residents to urgently request the deployment of a JCB from the Wokha Town Council to clear the obstruction.

In Etsuchukha Colony, around six houses were damaged, while Zuvotong Colony experienced severe flooding, with water entering homes and destroying household items.

The downpour has worsened the already poor road conditions in the area, with large potholes filling with rainwater and turning streets into dangerous, waterlogged traps.

This has severely disrupted daily life and poses serious risks to both pedestrians and vehicles.

The absence of an adequate drainage system is being blamed as the primary cause of the ongoing issues, with water accumulating in low-lying areas and causing widespread damage. Local businesses have also been badly affected, with many premises forced to close due to flooding.

Residents of Wokha town have called for urgent infrastructure improvements to prevent the recurrence of such conditions in future monsoon seasons.

Meanwhile, it was reported that normal life was disrupted in several other areas of the district due to the incessant rain.
