Kohima, May 28 (MExN): The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Home Department has issued a weather advisory forecasting heavy rainfall across the State in the coming days, with isolated thunderstorms and lightning expected until June 5.
Light to moderate rainfall is expected at most places on May 29, with heavy to very heavy rainfall likely at isolated places in Kohima, Kiphire, Tuensang, Phek, and Mon districts, it said.
Squally winds with speeds of 40–50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, are also likely to prevail in many districts, it added.
From May 29 to May 31, heavy rainfall is expected across all districts of Nagaland.
In particular, Kohima, Phek, and Tseminyu districts may receive exceptionally heavy rain from June 2 to June 5, while other districts may experience extremely heavy rainfall between June 1 and June 5, the NSDMA stated.
The NSDMA cautioned that the anticipated heavy precipitation could pose risks of lightning strikes, strong winds disrupting communication and connectivity, and potential waterlogging or flash floods in lowland and foothill areas.
Districts such as Dimapur, Niuland, Chümoukedima, Bhandari, Baghty, Tizit, and Tuli have been identified as vulnerable.
In view of the above, the NSDMA has urged the public to exercise caution and take necessary preventive measures.
All District Disaster Management Authorities and concerned departments have been requested to remain on high alert to prevent loss of life and property during the monsoon season.
For emergencies, the public may contact the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) toll-free at 1070, it added.
