The two day long 20th Biennial General Conference of the All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) got underway today at Kohima Science College (Autonomous), Jotsoma under the theme ‘Heralding Tomorrow’.

213 delegates from 38 colleges across Nagaland registered for the conference, which will conclude on October 23.

Addressing the introductory session, Nagaland College Principals Association (NCPA) President, Dr Visakhonü Hibo congratulated the ANCSU for leading the student community effectively.

“Quality of education depends on the effectiveness or the compliancy of its constituents,” she said. She stated that education should thrive for employability.

“Nagaland education scenario is changing”, she said and stressed on the need to go from ‘mugging’ to critical thinking and from archaic to functional literacy. She lamented that some colleges are ‘faring pathetically’ and a mechanism ought to be developed to check quality education.

She went on to say that theoretical education should not overshadow cognitive and critical thinking.

“We should take the E-highway to frog jump into the league of achievers in the world,” she said and advised to use the vehicle of quality education to herald a better, brighter tomorrow.

‘We need men and women with integrity’
In the welcome address, Dr Lily Sema, Principal KSCJ said “all members are young, educated, vibrant, and enthusiastic creating a powerful youth force. And it is on these young men and women that the future of our nation depends.”

We need men and women with integrity and those who can stand for our people, the right, and speak the truth, she said.

“You should learn to be hard working with high morality and accountability and develop respect for all to be future leaders who can handle responsibilities and pressures,” she added. She also expressed her confidence in ANSCU for competently taking up sensitive issues for the welfare of the students.

‘Don’t scramble over tribal issues’
Sharing greetings, Angami Students’ Union (ASU) President, Bisevi Nakhro appreciated the works of ANCSU for the past 42 years and their unrelenting zeal to promote cooperation, unity, and encourage the student community despite the pandemic.

“As we work for a better society, let us not waste time scrambling over tribal issues, denomination issues, egoistic issues, or leadership issues and instead, we should make time to support one another and work hand in hand” he urged.

Former ANCSU Magazine Secretary, Hikavi Kinini chaired the session. Later, ANCSU General Secretary, Imnameren N Jamir presented a report on the activities of the ANCSU during 2019- 2021. The introductory session was followed by the Union Assembly.
