Heritage status to DC Kohima building

Kohima, Jan 10 (DIPR): The Chief Minister, Nagaland today disclosed in a joint meeting with Secretaries and Heads of Department from IPR, Work Housing, Tourism and Arts and Culture; that the present Deputy Commissioner, Kohima’s Official Residence which was the erstwhile Official Residence of the then Deputy Commissioner of the British Empire, as a ‘Heritage’ Building. 

The formal declaration shall be made after the Capital Complex Authority (CCA) of Nagaland concurs it; following which it shall be handed over to the Department of Arts & Culture. During this meeting, it was also decided that other land-marks of attraction such as traditional gates on National Highways constructed by the Roads & Bridges Department would be handed over to the Department of Tourism.

The gates located at Chumukedima, the Kohima by-pass and at Khuzama shall now be up-kept by the Department of Tourism along with the Morung near Chathe Bridge at Patkai. The Morung shall be taken over by the Department of Tourism from the Chief Minister’s Secretariat and be developed as an amenities complex. Besides the above decisions, the Chief Minister urged upon the concerned Departments to gear-up all required amenities in the state; in view of the approaching North East Sports event, to be held at Kohima.
