The Nagaland Excise Department on July 10 recorded the largest single-day seizure of heroin in terms of weight and quantity.


Based on information, Dimapur Excise personnel on Wednesday morning around 8:00am raided a house in 6th Mile area, and apprehended one Thozü Poutao, and seized 1.56 kilo of heroin from his possession.


Disclosing this to media persons, Deputy Commissioner, Excise (Narcotics Cell), S Chanlei Angh, said that the seizure was the highest in the record of the Excise Department.


"The value of today's seizure is approximately Rs. 44,35,200 in local market value. This is the biggest seizure in the history of Nagaland Excise department. Earlier, the biggest seizure in our records was way back in the 1990s with around 1kg heroin in Dimapur," the DC Narcotics Cell said.


According to the Excise department, the accused is a resident of 6th Mile area. It was learned that the accused confessed that he purchased the drug from a certain person in Manipur and that he was working on commission basis.


The DC Narcotics Cell further informed that the Excise department had been tailing the suspected accused for the past three years.
