
KOHIMA, JULY 21 (DIPR): The Directorate of Health & Family Welfare has requested all pregnant women to avail the opportunity and services of the Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) scheme by delivering in the nearest Hospitals/CHCs/PHCs or at any accredited private Institutions. The JSY offers cash assistance of Rs. l, 400 for the mother and Rs. 600 for ASHA and under urban areas, a cash assistance of Rs. 1,000 for the mother and Rs. 200 for ASHA.
A release by the Additional Director, Dr. Yangerlemla has stated that nearly 1, 20,000 women in India die each year due to pregnancy - related complications. Most of these are preventable by timely managements of complications during pregnancy, child birth and immediately after birth. Child birth is safer at a hospital, equipped with all facilities to treat complications during pregnancy.
The Government of India has launched a new scheme called “Janani Suraksha Yojana” (JSY) on April 12 under National Rural Health Mission in order to reduce Infant Mortality Rate and Maternal Mortality Rate, especially among the women of 8 EAG (empowered action group) states, Assam, Jammu & Kashmir and the remaining North Eastern States. JSY is a 100% centrally sponsored Scheme and integrates cash assistance for institutional delivery and post- delivery care.
Nagaland being one among the high risk states in IMR and MMR, the Department of Health & Family Welfare focuses on a special drive for all pregnant women through Safe Motherhood and Institutional deliveries.
