DIMAPUR, APRIL 24 (MExN): Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Dimapur successfully concluded the 7th edition of Poshan Pakhwada 2025, organizing a series of nutrition awareness and health screening programmes across villages in Chümoukedima and Dimapur districts.
Spearheaded by Dr Phool Kumari, Senior Scientist and Head of KVK Dimapur, ICAR Nagaland Centre, the initiative ran from April 8 to 22, covering Vihokhu Village, NCHD & IT Office Dimapur, Dhansiripar Village, Naga United Village, and concluding at Tsüma Village.
The concluding programme was coordinated by Dr Chingakham Sima Chanu, Subject Matter Specialist (Home Science), and supported by Dr Bendangla Imsong (CTO, Plant Breeding and Genetics), Dr Moanaro (Programme Assistant), and Dr Ebibeni Ngullie (CTO, Animal Science).
A total of 157 participants, including farm women and farmers, attended the events. The programmes focused on crucial nutrition-related topics such as the first 1,000 days of life, maternal nutrition, and the importance of a balanced diet. Participants also received counselling on managing conditions like hypertension and diabetes.
As part of the health screening, 112 women aged 20–50 underwent assessments including Body Mass Index (BMI), Waist-Hip Ratio, and Blood Pressure checks. Based on WHO’s BMI classification for Asian women, 77 women were found to be overweight or obese, 1 woman had chronic energy deficiency, 34 women had normal BMI.
The screening also revealed that most of the women had a high waist-hip ratio, indicating an increased risk for non-communicable diseases. Half of them were found to be either pre-hypertensive or hypertensive.
Additionally, 2,000 tomato saplings were distributed to participating farmers as part of a nutrition-sensitive agriculture initiative.
