The National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP), Directorate of Health and Family Welfare, Nagaland has highlighted the main provision of Cigarettes & Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2003.
Through a pamphlet, it highlighted section 4 on ban of smoking in public places, government building, public transport, hotels, restaurant, parks, hospitals, schools, libraries, auditoriums, railway station, work places, cinema halls, discotheques, pubs, airports, lounge, prison etc. It indicated upto Rs. 200 as fine for violation of this provision. Also Section 5 directs ban on all forms of direct and indirect advertisement of tobacco products, with upto Rs. 1000- fine or imprisonment or both. And, Section 6 directs ban on sale of tobacco products to and by minors, ban on sale of tobacco and tobacco products within 100 yards of educational institutions with upto Rs. 200- fine for violation of this provision. Section 7 issues that depiction of specified health warnings on tobacco product packages, would earn upto Rs. 5000- fine or imprisonment or both for violation of this provision.
