Experiential workshop under ‘Himalaya for the Future’ initiative held at Hope Academy, Niuland on June 11.

Dimapur, June 12 (MExN): An ‘experiential’ workshop under the ‘Himalaya for the Future’ initiative was held at Hope Academy, Niuland on June 11. The event was organised by International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in collaboration with Tata and supported by TCS Foundation.
The event brought together students and educators from four schools including Charis High Academy, Hollotoli School, Hope Academy and Tuyitu Foundation School with the “goal of fostering environmental awareness and action,” stated an update received here.

Hope Academy, the partner school from Nagaland, hosted this event, which aimed to inspire young minds to critically engage with pressing environmental challenges affecting the Himalayan regions of India, including Jammu, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, and Nagaland etc, it stated.
The session featured a panel of resource persons including Meenal Pahuja and Akanksha Tyagi from IUCN team, Bano Haralu, Project Lead of Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) India, and Dr Martemjen Jamir, founder of Centre for Indigenous Culture and Environmental Studies (CICEs).

Topics covered were climate change and biodiversity in the Himalayas, species conservation in the eastern Himalayas, concept of inherited biodiversity, and Dimapur’s potential path to ecological resilience.
“The interactive nature of the sessions encouraged students to think deeply about their role in environmental stewardship and sustainability,” the release stated.
