A state level Hindi Workshop cum conference was held at Village Council Hall, Kigwema under the theme 'Changing Dynamics of Naga Society with India and Hindi' on February 15.
Resource person, Neizakie Yhoshü, Advisor, All Nagaland Hindi Teachers and Retired Hindi Teacher said India has been skillfully popularising Hindi in Nagaland by showing the way for Naga youths to learn Hindi through vocational and educational avenues which has gradually fueled the the interest in Hindi.
He expressed how before 1960s, people of Nagaland disliked not only Hindi-speaking people but also Maithili, Bhojpuri, etc. The speaker said that there was a time when people revolted against the learning of Hindi.
"Firstly, Kendriya Hindi Sansthan/ Central Institute of Hindi, Agra set up a branch in Dimapur. Now, several universities have been set up. Now, students can study from class 1 till Ph.D. through hindi medium," the speaker opined.
Yhoshü spoke about the scope of hindi and added that we can even appear UPSC exams in Hindi Medium and along with the knowledge of Hindi, we can travel to different parts of India and do our work.
He praised Hindi to be considered a technical language and which is why people come from countries like China, Japan, Russia, etc to Delhi and Agra to learn it and said there are hindi institutes even in those countries.
Yhoshü encouraged the young generation to choose good elements and disown the bad element citing that mobile, television, radio, videos, etc. are things that we should use but we should limit their usage.
Chairman, Kigwema Village Council, Bale Kere exhorted the gathering.
The programme was chaired by Dr Alono Thorie and special number was presented by St. Paul Higher Secondary School, Phesama and Medievino Chale, Class V, Mezhur Higher Secondary School, Kohima presented recitation.
Earlier Khokhe Neihu, Deacon, Kigwema Baptist Church prayed for the programme.
In the second session, Trio song was presented by Government Middle School, Kigwema and Loyola School Higher Secondary School, Jakhama presented songs.
The poetry recitation and writing competition were held where 6 schools participated.
Rokozhano Kuotsu, St. Paul School Phesama; Vitono Chale, Loyola Hr. Sec School, Jakhama and Tejosanu Tase, Loyola Hr. Sec School won the first, second and third prize in Writing Competition.
In poetry recitation, the position holders were Mayou C Ezung from Loyola Higher Secondary School, Neikhozono from GMS, Mima and Nolengunyü from Loyola Higher Secondary School.
The judges were Neizakie Yhoshü, Kelhouneizo Zhasa and Nepuno Kere, Radhika Dahal, Ruby Kumari Prasad and Kethosito Bio and members Kigwema Village Council.
