Morung Express News Kohima | April 22   The Hindustan Scouts and Guides Association held its Rajya Puraskar Ceremony on April 22 at Durbar Hall, Raj Bhavan with Nagaland Governor PB Acharya, State Chief Patron of Scout Movement in India as the main celebrant.   Lauding the activities and contributions of the Scouts and Guides movement, Rev. Dr. Fr. Soujan Puthankudy, State Chief Commissioner stated that the movement has the potential to change the destiny of the nations by shaping young minds as the purpose of the movement clearly state in its manual, “It is to contribute to the mental, physical and spiritual development of youth to make them complete and perfect.”   Rev. Dr. Fr. Soujan believed that the movement has the fire power to build up the personality and the self confidence of the children and young people, with its focus on building up values and discipline, projecting itself as a catalyst in forming the young people to be God fearing, disciplined and value based.   Lamenting over the fact that the world today is challenged with mediocre leadership, and with least commitment and vision, Puthankudy expressed hope over the movement as it is “focused on building up supreme confident in the power of the young people, guides them to be adventurous. Thrusts responsibility in them to build up leadership, develops loyalty to one’s own people and group, country and puts effort to change them from ‘what I can get’ to a ‘what I can give’ attitude.”   While appreciating the enthusiasm of the Governor towards the movement, Puthankudy also lauded the efforts of Gnana Nirmala, Secretary for North east region and Nagaland State, Hindustan Scout and Guides, whom he termed as an iron lady whose undying determination has brought the movement to a progressive position and is fast spreading in Nagaland and Northeast India.   Nagaland Governor PB Acharya highlighted the purpose of the Scouting movement which is to contribute to the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual emotion, survival skills, social and spiritual potentials as individuals as responsible citizens and as members of local, national, international communities.   “We cannot afford to be stagnant. We have to spread. We have to be vibrant. Let us strengthen our unity and increase membership so as to reach every cover of our country,” stated Acharya while encouraging the young Scouts and Guides to help contribute to uplifting and developing the country. Emphasis was also laid on the importance of education which needs to be selfless and not just empower the individual but enable them to empower the rest.   Much to the disappointment of the crowd, the Governor P.B Acharya spoke in Hindi. The Governor also concluded his speech with his signature slogan ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’.
