HIV/AIDS awareness camp conducted at JNV Chare

Chare, February 24 (MExN): The 5 Assam Rifles stationed at Chare, Tuensang conducted an HIV/AIDS awareness camp at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Chare at the school campus on February 24.  

Speaking at the awareness camp, Mahesh Dutt, Deputy Commandant, F Company 5 AR Chare stated that awareness is the biggest weapon for prevention and fighting against HIV/AIDS. Pointing out that the first HIV case was detected in India in 1986 and more than 2 crore people in the age group of 15 to 24 years are infected with HIV, Mahesh urged the students to stay away from addictive tobacco items like talab, gutkha, smoking, etc.  

The Deputy Commandant further maintained that lack of awareness and education contributes in spread of HIV/AIDS and advised the students to concentrate in their studies and educate and sensitize the people in their respective societies.  

Abhishek Kumar Jha, Nursing Assistant, F Coy, 5 AR enlightened the students on routes of HIV transmission and its prevention measures. The 5 Assam Rifles provided light refreshment to all the participants of the sensitization camp. Harish Kalita, Principal JNV Chare, Tuensang delivered the vote of thanks.
