Mon, April 9 (MExN): The Holy Redeemer Church Tobu under Mon district was blessed on April 7, 2024. The foundation stone of the church was laid by Rev Fr Jose Lukose on September 8, 2022.

The upgradation of new church building was dedicated by Most Rev Dr James Thoppil, Bishop of Nagaland in the presence of Yangba (IPS) Commandant 8th NAP (IR), Tobu parishioners, Catholic Association of Nagaland, Nagaland Catholic Youth Movement, Nagaland Catholic Women Association, Konyak Catholic Association, priests and nuns from different parishes & centres of Nagaland and beyond, all the catholic churches under Mon District, various CSOs and Village headmen’s of Tobu Area, church leaders  irrespective of different denominations attended the programme.

According to a press release, the construction of the church building was initiated by parish priest Rev Fr Anthony Samy in due consultation with the church elders, lay leaders, parishioners and Parish Pastoral Council. After holding several meetings with the Community, the Church Construction Committee (CCC) was set up with six members headed by Convener John Khangnyu. The Committee along the parishioners had entrusted Peter Homang to take up the responsibility of construction work under the architectural supervision of Parish Priest.

The structure measures of Holy Redeemer Church Tobu stands at 65ft in height, 51ft in breath and 110ft in length. The idea of upgrading new building was based on insufficient seating capacity to accommodate the increasing number of community members, the CCC informed in the press release. 

The committee has acknowledged organizations, individuals and well-wishers for their contribution towards the construction of Catholic Church. It was all possible because of the collective efforts of the parishioners, priests from various parishes/centres, Konyak Catholic Association, Various Catholic Churches from the diocese of Kohima, Tobu Village Council, Konyak Union Tobu, Konyak Mothers’ Association Tobu, Tobu Area Students’ Union, Tobu Village Students’ Union, Tobu Town Students’ Union, both College  Student’ Associations of  Tobu Town and Tobu Village, All the Baptist Churches of Tobu, and other like-minded individuals whose contribution has made a successful completion of the Church, it added.
