Home Dept memo reflects govt’s ‘double standards,’ WSH alleges

Dimapur, August 16 (MExN): The Western Sumi Hoho (WSH) has written to the Nagaland Commissioner expressing resentment against the latest Office Memorandum issued by the Home Department on August 16.

According to the WSH, the timing of the office memorandum “reflects nothing but double standards on the part of the Government of Nagaland.”

“The Office Memorandum of the Political Branch, Home Department, would have been justified had it been issued immediately after the CSOs of Peren District had intimated to the DC Peren on August 9, 2022 about their already resolved decision to impose blockade of Kiyevi village. Instead, your office obliged the CSOs of Peren District to their unjustified blockade of Kiyevi village and relented to their demand through Commissioner's letter No. CNG-1/45/COM/KEHOI/2018 dated the 13th August 2022, addressed to DC Chümoukedima/Peren, by agreeing to keep on hold payment of damage compensation to Kiyevi village,” WSH President Shikaho Zhimomi and Co-Convenor Benito Z Swu stated in the representation.

The WSH went on to state that it was ‘left with no option’ but to impose a counter blockade to fight for the bonafide rights of Kiyevi village which is a recognised village of Nagaland under WSH jurisdiction.

Stating that it is “deeply anguished by the one-sided stance of the government which is clearly manifested by the release of the OM only after the WSH imposed a counter blockade,” the WSH maintained that it has “no other alternative but to further strengthen and continue with its indefinite bandh until the government revoke its order to keep on hold the payment of damage compensation to Kiyevi village.”

“The WSH expects from the government, the dispensation of equal treatment and justice,” it said, while emphasising that, “the government would have done itself a favour had it issued the OM immediately after the imposition of  Kiyevi blockade by the CSOs of Peren District or after due payment of damage compensation under package-III to Kiyevi village.”

Counter blockade resumes
Meanwhile, the indefinite bandh enforced by the WSH in Dhansiripar Sub-division resumed on August 16 after a one-day break on August 15 on account of Independence Day. There was no official update from government authorities, but as per independent sources, the route to Jalukie via Shokhuvi-Pimla was blockaded on August 16, while, business went on as usual in the Dhansiripar subdivisional headquarters and adjoining Doyapur. One source said that businesses will also be shut in the subdivisional headquarters and Doyapur from August 17.
