Kohima | May 26 : There has been a marked improvement in the overall law and order situation in the state, Nagaland Home Minister Imkong L. Imchen announced today. Briefing media persons after a review meeting on law and order with deputy commissioners and superintendents of police at the Secretariat Conference Hall here today, the Home Minister also announced that crime rate has reduced drastically. It is evident that the overall law and order situation in the state is normal, Imchen said and congratulated the district administrations and the police on doing excellent work in maintaining law and order in the state. He however admitted that extortion is still continuing.
Expressing hope that the conducive atmosphere will continue, he made an appeal to the cross section of the people including the NGOs and civil societies to continue to cooperate with the administration and the police. Giving a detailed crime statistics of the state from the year 2009 till April 30 this year, he expressed satisfaction with the performance of the state government in maintenance of law and order.
As per the statistics, a total of 310 cases under IPC were registered this year up to April 30 as against 966 cases in 2009 and 1038 in 2010 while under crime head under local and special laws, a total of 122 cases have been registered so far this year compared to 288 in 2009 and 403 in 2010. A total of 303 persons have been arrested this year up to April 30 under IPC crime against 812 persons in 2009 and 877 in 2010 while under local and special laws there have been 164 arrests so far this year as compared to 504 in 2009 and 608 in 2010. Also, there have been a total of 26 arrests this year for ILP violation as against 231 in 2009 and 205 in 2010.

Imchen convenes meet with DCs & SPs

He desired that they maintain peace and tranquillity and also lauded their efficient administration. The DCs and SPs gave their reports on the latest law and order situation of their respective districts, which in general reflected the decline of crime rates in the districts. The Home Minister also appealed to the peace loving people and the NGOs to cooperate in maintaining peace in the State. State Chief Secretary Lalthara, Additional Chief Secretary & Commissioner Nagaland, Banuo Z. Jamir and Home Commissioner Nagaland, J. Alam also attended the meeting.
