Kohima, December 18 (MExN): As part of the weeklong observance of National Consumer Day from December 18 to 24, the President of Nagaland Voluntary Consumers' Organisation (NVCO) Kezhokhoto Savi has appealed to all service providers to honour the rights of the consumers. December 24 is observed as National Consumer Day in India every year.
The NVCO team went to an LPG counter in Kohima Town to ascertain how the consumers were being treated in the early morning of December 18, 2017, informed a press release from NVCO Media Cell. They observed with sadness the consumers, “mostly mothers who were supposed to take care of their children at home,” already in the queue since 3:00 am, it stated.
The organization questioned the District Administration the reason behind such situation and how to solve the LPG supply problem. “Is that because of shortage or black marketing?” it wondered. It appealed to the administration to do something before December 24 as a gift to the consumers to celebrate the National Consumer Day.
Meanwhile, NVCO requested the courier services to deliver any parcel or letter to the door as payments were made for that. Failing to do so will amount to exploitation of consumer rights, it maintained. “So much of deficiency services are also found by the service providers run by the state departments like power/electricity, PHE, etc,” the organization alleged.
The release further informed that NVCO will mark the 7th year of running Nagaland State Consumer Helpline with Toll Free 1800-345-3701 on December 24 as the helpline, as central project, was launched on the same day in 2011 coinciding with National Consumer Day.
