
Wokha, December 28 (MExN): Hornbill CC, Kohima and Shoorveer 28 Assam Rifles entered the quarterfinals of the ongoing 21st Winter Cricket Challenge, played at Local Ground, Wokha. Hornbill CC edged Hurricanes CC by 9 runs while 28 AR humbled Forest CC by a margin of 128 runs. In a closely contested match between Hornbill and Hurricanes, Hornbill electing to bat set a target of 117 runs losing 6 wickets in the reduced 15-over match. For Hornbills, Barjish Boroh led the scoring with 28 runs and was assisted by Tapitu (22 runs), and Janti Koch (19). Renben was the pick of the bowlers for Hurricanes claiming 2 wickets. In the run chase, a quick-fire 37 runs from Mhachamo brought some hope for the Hurricanes. Moyithung (24 runs) and Thungbenshan (14) also had their share of runs with the bat but at the end of the stipulated overs, Hurricanes fell short by 10 runs scoring 107 runs and losing 5 wickets. Tieso of Hornbill who claimed a wicket while bowling was adjudged the Man of the Match. In the second match, 28 AR electing to bat set up a huge total of 178 runs losing 4 wickets. Man of the Match Amar Thapa scored 66 runs while Parveen chipped in with 54 runs. Forest CC were bowled out in just 12.2 overs for a paltry 50 runs. Nyanbemo and John were the only two batsmen who reached the two figure with 15 and 13 runs respectively. Narender led the wicket takers with 3 wickets while Amar Thapa and Parveen both grabbed 2 wickets each.
