Hornbill Motor Rally gets bigger; highest prize money

Kohima | November 29 : Nagaland is all set to carve a niche on the global calendar of motorsports events as renowned car rally drivers from at several nations apart from Indian confirming their participation in the upcoming International Hornbill Motor Rally, which will be formally flagged off on the inaugural day of the premier festival of the Nagas – the Hornbill Festival.
The motor rally, particularly the TSD (Time-Speed-Distance) event, is expected to catch global attention with the world’s top sports channels including ESPN, Star Sports, CNBC (CNN), etc confirming coverage of the event with the use of helicopters.
Briefing mediapersons prior to the event, Advisor to NAMSA and also president of the Federation of Adventure and Motorsports Association of North East (India), Abu Metha said with international media houses such as these prestigious mediahouses coming in, the event has provided a rare opportunity for the state to catch global attention.  According to him, the Hornbill Motor Rally 2011 also boasts of the highest prize money  
Metha also informed that at least two international champions in the field of motorsports – Nagaland’s own Along Aier and Sani Siddhu – would be participating in this year’s edition of the Hornbill Motor Rally. Besides, he said, living up the standards of an international motorsports event, news teams would be covering the rally throughout by helicopter (supported by the state government) and these helicopters would be on standby for evacuation.
For the record, the Hornbill Motor Rally boasts of the highest prize money – in excess of Rs. 5 lakh.  Also, for the record, the marshals to oversee this event are none less than experts who have marshaled in nothing less than Formula One races.
The Hornbill Motor Rally would involve not less than a hundred cars. At least some 80 cars and 20 motor bikes would be participating in the TSD section while at least some 100 vehicles are expected to participate in the different sections of the rally.  According to Metha, this is a really big achievement given the fact that Nagas can proudly boast of owning one of the biggest brands of sports – the Hornbill International Motor Rally.
Parliamentary Secretary in charge of Youth Resources & Sports, Naiba Konyak will formally flag off the motor rally while Former National and Asia Zone Rally Champion and Manger Motor Sports, J.K. Tyre will grace the event as Guest of Honour.        
 
Grand finale of Hornbill motor rally 2011on Dec 3
 
The Grand finale and the Prize Distribution ceremony of the Hornbill International Motor Rally 2011 will be held on December 3 at the IG Stadium Kohima at 5 p.m.
Parliamentary Secretary Youth Resources & Sports Naiba Konyak will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest while Former National and Asia Zone Rally Champion and Manger Motor Sports, J.K. Tyre will grace the event as Guest of Honour.
President, Federation of Adventure and Motor Sports Association of North-east India (FAMSANE) Abu Metha will chair the programme while member, NAMSA Tokaho Kinimi will deliver the welcome address. The Hornbill International Motor Rally 2011 is organized by Nagaland Adventure and Motor Sports Association (NAMSA) in collaboration with the Department of Youth Resource and Sports, Government of Nagaland.
