Dzieselatuo Keretsü emerges as champion

Kisama, December 4 (DIPR): The 11th International Hornbill Naga Wrestling Championship, 2017 held at Amphitheatre Naga Heritage Village, Kisama on December 4 culminated with Dzieselatuo Keretsü emerging as the champion of the grand event for the third time. The event organized by the Nagaland Wrestling Association was graced by Minister for PWD (Roads and Bridges), Dr. Neikiesalie Kire as the chief guest.  

Speaking at the programme Dr. Neikiesalie Kire urged wrestlers to work towards increasing their strength and physical fitness instead of relying on the old way of eating the best food to gain weight. In Naga Wrestling there is no opponent but friend he stated, rightly maintaining the same as the beauty of the indigenous Naga game. Citing the example of neighbouring state Manipur, he encouraged players of different games in the state to be adoptive to make progress in their respective fields. Wish we make more friendship through sports he said, expressing his anticipation for more participation from the visitors in the annual event in the coming years.  

In the programme chaired by President, Angami Sports Association, Viliehu Nguzhu, Associate Pastor, Chakesang Baptist Church, New Minister Hill, Kohima, Thujoneyi Veswu said the invocation prayer. President, Nagaland Wrestling Association, Neivikuolie Khatsu delivered the presidential address while, Technical Secretary (Freestyle), NWA, Chisazo Dawhuo administered the oath to the participants.  

The winners of the various categories of the 11th edition of the International Hornbill Naga Wrestling Championship, 2017 are: Champion:- Dzieselatuo Keretsü; Runners’ up:- Kezhavizo Thevo; Tourist category Champion:- Sheko Veini Poumai (Manipur); and Runners’ up:- Hraiba Dow Poumai (Manipur).  

The winner of the championship walked away with a cash prize of Rs. 100000/- and citation while, the runners up was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 50000/- and citation. The losing semi finalist and quarter finalist were awarded Rs. 20000/- and Rs. 5000/- each respectively.  

In the Tourist category, the Champion and the runners up were awarded cash prize of Rs. 15000/- and Rs. 10000/- and citations respectively. A total of 44 local wrestlers and 16 tourist wrestlers participated in the annual event.
