Horti officers called to work for farmers

Kohima, April 3 (DIPR): A felicitation cum introductory programme was held at the Conference Hall, Directorate of Horticulture on April 3 with Advisor, Department of Horticulture, Mhathung Yanthan as the chief guest. The programme was chaired by Secretary Horticulture, Alan Gonmei, IAS.  

The chief guest in his speech informed that Nagaland has a lot of potential to develop in the field of horticulture and called upon all the officers to sincerely work for the farmers. He mentioned that the need of the hour is change in approach, thinking, planning and added that it is important to keep pace with technology. He mentioned that in many villages people have already given up farming, so the role of the department is to identify and research what went wrong. He questioned the aspect of the market chain or lack of technical knowledge.  

Mhathung stated that it is important to identify what will be suitable to benefit the farmers and motivate and share various ideas to explore ways and means. He added that all funds should reach to those working in the grass root level and emphasis on the importance of skill development and training should be given.  

Welcome speech was delivered by Joint Director, Horticulture, Qhutovi Wotsa. Highlights of activities of the Department were given by the Director & Mission Director (MIDH), Dr. R. Elithung Lotha. Vote of thanks was proposed by Deputy Director, Horticulture, Jerry Patton.
