
Kohima, December 5 (MExN): The Department of Horticulture bid adieu to its outgoing Director, Watienla Jamir, who retired after rendering 35 years of service, on December 2 at the Directorate of Horticulture, Kohima.
The programme, which was attended by a host of dignitaries including AHoDs and HoDs as well as members from the Kohima Watsü Mungdang and district officers and staff, was chaired by Pawan Kumar, incumbent Director.
Alan Gonmei (IAS), Secretary (Horticulture) said Watienla was a very efficient and dedicated leader and her retirement will definitely leave a vacuum in the department. Highlighting some of her notable achievements, he remarked that the massive development of floriculture in the State was due to the sincere efforts of the outgoing Director and it was under her leadership that the much needed Cadre Review of the Department could take off and was under recommendation by the Cadre Review Committee, informed a press release. Besides, she was also instrumental in bringing about a systematic computerisation and documentation of all the departmental records, Alan stated.
In his speech, Kejong Chang, Parliamentary Secretary (Horticulture) also appreciated the contributions of the outgoing Director during her directorship. He urged the incoming Director and officers to emulate the qualities of the outgoing Director so as to take the Department to new heights and wished the outgoing Director a very happy retired life.
Meanwhile, Watienla Jamir said that she had a vision for the Department as one of the highest revenue earning Departments of the State and urged the officers and staff to be sincere and make concerted efforts to achieve the vision and to work unceasingly towards the welfare of the farming community. She wished her successor the best and expressed hope that under his leadership, the Department will flourish into a Department to be reckoned with.
Short Speeches were also delivered by officers from the Directorate and district offices besides other dignitaries and well-wishers.
