Hostage rescued, 2 abductors arrested, 1 bolted

Two persons were arrested on the night of September 29 at the Singrijan-Selouphe junction, Chümoukedima, in an alleged case of abduction. They were caught, during routine security frisking by the police, while transporting the hostage they had allegedly abducted.  

According to the official police release about the incident, a car (Maruti Alto) without registration number plate was intercepted at a Mobile Vehicle Checkpost (MVCP) set up at the Singrijan/Selouphe junction at around 8:50 pm, Friday. There were 4 occupants in the car, three of whom revealed they were members of the NSCN (IM), while the fourth person was identified as Abdul Kayum Talukdar, Gaonbura (GB) of New Market, Dimapur. 

While the police personnel were checking the vehicle, the release said that one of the three NSCN (IM) members fled the scene. The other two were detained, while Talukdar held that he was abducted by the three. “On spot interrogation, Abdul Kayum Talukdar revealed that he was forcibly kidnapped from near Hotel Theja Fort, Burma Camp, Dimapur and he was being transported in the said car,” the release said. 

Based on the revelation, Talukdar was rescued and handed over to his family. 

The two NSCN (IM) members, who were arrested, were identified as Captain Masalepzuk (40 years) and Lieutenant Isacar Swu (39 years). The one, who escaped, was identified as Captain Ahor Tangkhul.  

A case was registered under relevant sections of the law at East Police Station, Dimapur.
