A 13-room wooden structured house was completely razed in a fire incident which broke out Wednesday at Merhülietsa colony below Molu Ki in Kohima.

According to the Kohima Fire and Emergency Services, the fire broke out at around 11.40am. Six fire tenders were pressed into action and the personnel managed to douse the raging fire after about two hours.

Fire fighting personnel on duty informed that the incident is suspected to have spread from a short circuit. Since the house was made of wood, nothing much could be salvaged, they said.

It was reported that the house was occupied by three families, but fortunately, there was no one in residence during the time the fire broke out except for an elderly woman, who managed to escape unhurt. Although no casualty was reported, properties worth around Rs. 50-60 lakhs is estimated to have been lost in the fire.
