Mokokchung, July 13 (MExN): A house belonging to an elderly couple was gutted in a fire at Dilong Ward, Mokokchung on July 12 around 6:00 am.
According to a source at the Fire and Emergency Service, Mokokchung, the elderly couple was in the house when the incident occurred.
The couple managed to come out of the house and alerted the neighbours who assisted in dousing the fire. A fire engine was dispatched immediately, however, it was too late, the source informed.
Due to narrow passage, the vehicle could not reach the spot. Another fire engine was called in to attach an extra pipeline connection after which the fire fighting team managed to douse the fire.
The house was completely gutted in the fire, suspected to have been caused by a short circuit.
