House listing for Census 2027 in Nagaland to begin July 2026

Nagaland Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Monday informed the state assembly that the Centre formally notified the decennial Census on June 16, 2025, marking the launch of one of the world's largest administrative exercises.

In his maiden address to the eighth session of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Bhalla outlined the schedule for Census 2027, which will be conducted in two phases. He stated that for Nagaland, the first phase, comprising the House listing and Housing Census, will be held from July 1 to July 30, 2026. He added that the option for self-enumeration will be operational from June 16 to June 30, 2026. 

The second phase, involving population enumeration, is scheduled for February 2027.

The Governor urged the legislators to extend all necessary cooperation to the State administrative machinery and guide all the stakeholders for proper and successful conduct of the Census exercise in the state.
