The Kohima Smart City Development Limited (KSCDL) today launched the ‘Rate Your City’ (February 1 to February 29) Ease of Living (EoL) Perception Survey inviting all citizens in the capital Kohima to participate in rating their city.
Participants can log in to Eol2019.org/citizenfeedback where they can rate their city on the basis of quality of life, economic ability and sustainability.
It may be noted that Kohima city was ranked 110th in the last 2017 survey, making it the second most unlivable city in the country.
Addressing a press conference on February 1, Kovi Meyase, KSCDL CEO solicited the participation of each citizen in Kohima in rating the capital which will further help the KSCDL in developing and improving the living standard of the city.
Although the citizens’ participation was lacking in the 2017 survey, Meyase hoped that more citizens will participate and provide their feedbacks which will help the KSCDL to include the assessments in the future planning of the city.
While the assessment is essential, Kezhochole Rhetso, General Manager (Planning) reminded that "the assessment does not in anyway define anything good or bad about any city. Rather this assessment is done only to make and help the city aware of its position."
Meyase also reminded that despite the absence of an urban local body in the capital where it has been deprived of avenues, funding and opportunities, Kohima is made to compete with the rest of the cities across the country. "The survey is a mechanism of assessment of our city. It is linked to the livability of its citizens and it touches even the job avenues," said Zakiekhoto Kiso, Senior Manager (Planning).
During the press conference, the KSCDL team also updated on the progress of its various projects. The team informed that the two multi level parking in Kohima will be completed by October 2020. While the ongoing road construction between the Classic Point and Box cutting stretch has been delayed, the team assured that the construction will be completed this year.
A significant project is the Integrated Common Control Component (ICCC), which, Avelu Rüho, Joint CEO, KSCDL informed, will go live by the end of February. The installation of 800 streetlights in Kohima is underway which will be centrally controlled under the ICCC system.
Rate Your City is part of the second survey EoL 2019 which will be the second edition of the Ease of Living Index. The Index aims to amplify the ease of living of citizens under the three pillars of quality of life, availability of economic opportunities and environment.
The Index hopes to provide a holistic view of Indian cities in terms of services provided by local bodies, effectiveness of the administration, and outcome generated through these services.
